Every Journey Must Come to an End . . . Thank You All.

February 20, 2012
Dear Friends:

After much soul-searching and with a great deal of regret, I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for Jefferson County State’s Attorney. I would like to thank my many friends for their loyal support and for all of their hard work. An effective candidate must dedicate most of one’s time to the campaign. At this time it is just not possible for me to do so and still maintain the foremost needs of my family and my private practice.

I do urge those who have worked for me to give their support to my friend and colleague Nobel Dowell. I entered the race for State’s Attorney because I care deeply for this community and for the safety of our citizens, especially the safety of our children. I knew, with my years of legal experience and my time as a criminal prosecutor, I could help make a difference. When I entered the race, no other experienced lawyer was a State’s Attorney candidate for either political party. Nobel Dowell has since announced his candidacy. I know Nobel. He has over thirty years of experience in the practice of law. He is an excellent lawyer and is one who believes in the principles of our system of justice. Your vote for Nobel Dowell will serve my goal to have an experienced and qualified State’s Attorney protecting the community that is Jefferson County.

Sincerely,

Meleah H. Walton

Campaign Signs are in!

Hello, my friends. It's true, my campaign signs are in and ready for your yards! If you would like one, please let me know and I'll get one to you.

Also having arrived on my doorstep are more campaign goodies . . . handy nail files and tip table/palm cards. And don't forget the t-shirts! Those tees are quite the rage - they flatter every figure :)

Now, please allow me another plug for my upcoming fundraiser on Friday, February 3rd. We'll be having a Country Rhodes all-you-can-eat fish (& chicken strips) fry with all the fixin's. Adult & Carryout tickets are $8.50 and Child tickets are $5.50. There will also be available for purchase drinks and desserts. You can purchase your tickets ahead of time from myself, my husband Brett, Donna Walton, Carmen Randall, Julie Berry, or Cathy Graham. You also have the option to purchase your tickets at the door - same price. Please come! Your support is needed and GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Remember . . . the Primary Election is only a little over a month away, on MARCH 20TH. If you're going to be out of town and will not be here to vote, you will want to get your ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATION as soon as possible. Also, don't forget, Jefferson County has EARLY VOTING in which you are able to vote before March 20th, at the courthouse. I'll have more on these voting options in an upcoming post.

Enjoy your evening! And remember to pick up your "Vote for Meleah H. Walton for State's Attorney" sign!

Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. . . . a Man After God's Own Heart

"Non-violent civil disobedience is the primary and necessary means of effecting social and political change." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

My kids and I returned a little while ago from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, entitled "Affirming America's Promise". It was absolutely wonderful. The keynote speaker, Ed Hearn eloquently, relayed that although Dr. King had imperfections and vices against which he struggled (as we all do), he desired to follow God and to be His vessel - no matter where that might lead him. My hope is that we will teach this truth to our children, and they will teach it to their children, and so on.

I find it exciting that Dr. King modeled his plan of non-violent civil disobedience on that of Mahatma Gandhi and even more so on the life of Jesus Christ. Amazing, isn't it? Each of the individuals speaking or performing today made sure to point out that God's grace has carried us to this point in America and will continue to lead us as we work together to continue to improve this great country of ours.

Thank you, Jefferson County NAACP, for putting together a truly memorable experience for my three children . . . as well as their mother.

Here comes the first Meleah H. Walton for Jefferson County State's Attorney Fundraiser!

Well hello my friends in Blogsville! I trust you all had a great holiday. My family sure did! Now that I'm finally over the aftershocks of such great food (and the abundance thereof), it's time to get this campaign in high gear!

Please join me on Friday, February 3, 2012 for my first campaign fundraiser. We'll be having a good old fashioned fish fry by Country Rhodes at the Rolland Lewis Community Building in Mt. Vernon from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tickets are: $8.50 for Adults and Carryouts; and $5.50 for Children. The ticket price includes all-you-can-eat (except carryouts, of course) catfish, walleye, chicken strips, popcorn, plus yummy sides.

ALSO, we need volunteers to sell tickets, donate desserts, deliver to area groups, and work the event. If you are able and willing to help, PLEASE let me (618-204-5022) or Cathy Graham (618-246-3342) know. Thank you so very much!

The adventure has truly begun . . .
